Liquid Crysal Technology Posters: Improvement in LC Alignment

Thursday, May 16, 2024, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM / San Jose Convention Center, Room 220A

P.182 - XPS Mechanical Simulation Based on Finite Element Method
  • Shaohui Li, Shi Shu, Qi Yao, Xinhua Liu, Yong Yu, Yang Yue, Chuanxiang Xu, Xiang Li, Jinxiang Xue, Dapeng Xue, Changhan Xie
BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. Beijing China

  • In this paper, the XPS mechanical model based on the finite element method is established to accurately evaluate the XPS deformation quantity, which provides guidance for evaluating the product's anti-pressure ability, resulting in improving the strength of cell gap and reducing the risk of gap mura.

P.183 - One-Drop Filling (ODF) for High-Viscosity Liquid Crystal
  • Yi-Peng Huo, Zheng-Nan Yuan, Zhi-Bo Sun, Man-Chun Tseng, Valerii Vashchenko, Olena Vashchenko, Abhishek Srivastava, Jacob Ho, Hoi-Sing Kwok
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Hong Kong Hong Kong

  • A new ODF system has been developed specifically for higher viscous liquid-crystal materials such as ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC). The system enables heating up an LC panel both for liquid-crystal material and perimeter seal processing. Using the newly developed system, a good quality of panel gap and EO performance are confirmed.

P.184 - Novel Pixel Design for Improved Color Shift of UV2A Mode
  • Yuanhui Guo, Lu Bai, Junying Xiao, Lei Liu, Yingying Qu, Dongchuan Chen, Mingzhi Nan, Wu Wang, Yujie Gao, Yanping Liao, Toshifumi Yagi
BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. Beijing China

  • Skin color shift at side view of UV2A mode is a challenging problem. In this paper, several factors such as various methods for 8-domain driving, resistant ratio, and area ratio of sub to main pixel are fully discussed. Finally, a novel pixel design is proposed with CR (80/20) = 50%, which is 25% higher than traditional UV2A mode. The skin color shift level is competitive with the traditional 8-domain UV2A mode.

P.185 - Influence Factors of Dark Viewing Angle of Vertical-Alignment Liquid-Crystal Displays
  • Xulin Lin, Wei Li, Yanjun Song
TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Corporation Shenzhen China

  • Dark viewing angle is an important indicator for evaluation of picture quality in large LCDs. By using simulation results and physical insights provided by the Extended Jones Matrix Method, it is clarified that LC pre-tilt is one of the crucial factors of dark viewing angle in VA-type LCDs

P.186 - A Novel Liquid-Crystal Material for Shortening the UV2 Process of Polymer-Stabilized Vertically Aligned Liquid-Crystal Displays
  • Jianfeng Xiao, Yanan Wang, Rentang Zhao, Ji Li, Chung-Ching Hsieh, Xiao Liu
TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. Shenzhen China

  • Shortening the UV2 process for polymer-stabilized vertical alignment (PSVA) is important to reduce the power consumption and maintenance costs of UV lamps during LCD fabrication. With novel LC materials consisting of fast-reaction RMs, the UV2 process is dramatically decreased from 90 min to 20 min. Furthermore, the reduction of the UV2 process shows competitive optical properties, reliabilities, and pre-tilt angle stabilities compared with the reference.

P.187 - Polymerized 2- (Methacrylic Acid) Ethyl 3,5-Diaminobenzoic Acid Reaction Monomer Polyimide for PSVA Technology
  • Ji Li, Zhifu Li, Jie Chen, Yongchao Zhao, Binbin He, Ting Zhao, Shuang Lu, Guozhong Wang
TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. Shenzhen China

  • Several new alignment materials are investigated that aim at higher pre-tilt angle with photoalignment process. With focus on some molar fraction reaction monomers polymerized on the polymer backbone utilizing specific polymer stabilized vertical alignment polymer, with lowlight accumulation conditions, a higher pre-tilt is obtained.

P.188 - Analysis and Improvement of TV 'Slapping Bright Spots' Defects
  • Jing Wang, Zhi Yang, Shi Cheng, Junjie Fu, Zimo Sheng, Bin Xie, Jun Feng, Xiangyu Gao
Wuhan BOE Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. Wuhan China

  • To analyze the motion ghosting phenomenon in liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), a motion block artifact simulation model based on response time (RT) curves is established using human visual perception theory. By calculating the brightness integral, the presence and degree of the rebound phenomenon are quantified. Furthermore, based on the quantified changes in RT curves at different frames, the mechanism of rebound generation is analyzed, and improvement measures are proposed.

P.246 Late-News Poster: Effective Flicker Reduction Through Luminance Compensation Between Pixels in the Fringe-Field Switching Mode Using Positive-Dielectric Liquid Crystals
  • Seong-Hyeon Yoo, Seung-Hwa Baek, Dong-Jin Lee, Hoon Jeong, Jeong-Gi Park
LG Display Co, Ltd. Paju South Korea

  • Nagahisa Miyagawa, Chikahide Kanadani
    JNC Petrochemical Corporation Ichihara Japan

  • Positive-dielectric liquid crystals are used to eliminate flicker, to reduce power consumption, and to improve image quality. The dielectric constant is optimized for a low flexoelectric effect and flicker is advanced by adding the LC component, which reduces the luminance difference between frames. The authors confirm that the a-Si TFT LCD panel incorporating the developed LC operates without flicker at the driving frequency of 40Hz.
